Country Guitar Lessons

Country guitar has traveled a beautiful and diverse road from its roots in cowboy songs, western swing and hillbilly boogie. There is Countrypolitan Nashville and Rockabilly, or how about Bakersfield Sound, Outlaw Country, or Country Rock? Bluegrass Guitar Lessons

Bass/strum accompaniment with bass runs and riffs. Solo playing for bluegrass and fiddle tunes. Flat-picking techniques and speed and co-ordination exercises are emphasized, as well as solo writing and improvisation in the bluegrass style.

Classical Guitar Lessons

Mastering the technique and expression of the classical guitar is a powerful and joyous experience. Instruction focuses on posture, right and left hand technique, arpeggio technique, scale theory and technique, sight reading, and performance.

Folk Guitar Lessons

Traditional & contemporary folk with finger-style and flat-picking accompaniment. Rise Up Singing is just one source used. Singing and playing is taught as well.

Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons

All aspects of three-finger picking and arpeggio style are taught. Styles include Old Country Blues, Delta Blues, Slide Guitar, American Primitive, New Age, and accompaniment styles for vocalists.

Jazz Guitar Lessons

Jazz guitar requires all of the focus and commitment of the classical guitar with the added demand of skillful improvisation. Instruction focuses on right and left hand technique (for chord progressions and scales), jazz chord theory and substitution, chord melodies and pure improvisation.

Michael teaches throughout the year, 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday. He is available days starting lessons as early as 7 AM for those who wish to attend before their workday begins. He teaches evenings as late as 10 PM. Please call 919.423.3754 for times and availability.
